Corpus Christi Sharks News Release
Corpus Christi, TX: Five days after the Sharks posted an impressive win over the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz with a flawless offensive performance, the Sharks (2-7) committed five turnovers in route to an 82-59 home loss to the Arkansas Twisters (7-2).
Sharks QB Gary Cooper threw four first half interceptions coupled with the defense's inability to come up with an answer to the potent combination of Twister QB Kyle Rowley and star wideout Rod Harper put the Sharks in a hole they couldn't crawl out from.
Rowley had a huge night going 24-30 with a pick for 407 yards and 10 touchdowns. On a normal night Rowley would have been the Russell Athletic Player of the game, but that honor went to Rod Harper who had 14 catches for 275 yards and seven trips to the end zone.
The turnovers and defensive struggles overshadowed a franchise record night by Sharks WR Anthony Clark. Clark set a record for scoring in a game a game by catching six passes for 115 yards and 6 touchdowns. The 36 points scored by Clark eclipsed the old mark of 30 set by teammate Brandon Hussey against Bossier Shreveport on June 28th, 2008. Clark has played in two games for the Sharks this year and has 9 catches for 168 yards and 9 touchdowns.
With the loss, the Sharks are now 0-4 all time against the Twister. The Sharks hit the road next week and head to Bossier Shreveport to take on the Battle Wings. The Sharks have never beaten the Wings either but that may need to change to save their season.
The Sharks return to the American Bank Center June 13th to take on the Rio Grande Valley Dorados on U.S. Army Men's Night presented by Corpus Christi Harley Davidson and Andrews Distributing. The game will feature a flag football "Grudge Match" between the Lady Sharks and the Crush Girls as well as $2 Beer all night.
