Corpus Christi Sharks News Release
Corpus Christi Sharks Vice President/General Manager, Larry Linde announced today that negotiations with a local group to take controlling interest of the af2 franchise had stalled and the team will immediately re-open their search for prospective investors.
"We've had ongoing discussions with a great local group that I thought would be a perfect match. Unfortunately, at the end of the day, they just couldn't make it fit with their other business ventures at this time. It's an unfortunate turn of events but I still believe people will step forward", said Linde.
The Sharks just completed their third season in Corpus Christi with an average attendance over 4,100 fans per game. On the field the team struggled to a 2-14 record after coming within a game of making the playoffs in 2008. Linde said the team will have to make a decision on the 2010 season before the end of August when certificates of obligation are due.
"When I joined the current ownership group last fall it was with the understanding that I'd develop my own local group to take controlling interest of the team at the end of the 2009 season. What I thought would be a short term project became much more complicated with the implosion of our national economy", said Linde. He added, "Unfortunately I'm not independently wealthy or I'd do it on my own. In the big scope of things we're not looking for a lot of money - what we need is local influence to help open doors with the corporate community".
