Green Bay Blizzard News Release
In an overtime thriller, enthusiastic fans witnessed the Green Bay Blizzard top the Quad City Steamwheelers 52-49. Kicker Bob Forstrom provided the heroics with a 21 yard, game winning field goal following a brilliant Blizzard defensive stand.
Quad City dominated the first quarter, jumping out to a 14-0 lead, before the Blizzard began battling back. Green Bay started their comeback when Shadrack Okoebor (4 tackles) recovered a fumble for a defensive touchdown to start the second quarter. Both teams put on an offensive show as they traded scores throughout the half. The action was highlighted by Blizzard WR Terry Love's 56 yard kickoff return and timely 24 yard touchdown reception from Blizzard QB Gino Guidugli. The Blizzard trailed the Steamwheelers' 35-27 as the half ended.
Early in the third quarter, Green Bay kept the action rolling when Nate Forse (9 receptions for 185 yards and 1 TD) scored on a 40 yard touchdown strike from Guidugli to bring the Blizzard within one point of the Steamwheelers. Defensive lineman Anthony Hoke helped put the Blizzard ahead for the first time when his strong pass rush lead to intentional grounding in the Quad City endzone resulting in a safety.
After a fourth quarter lull, things looked dire when the Steamwheelers returned a Blizzard fumble 21 yards and took a 49-42 lead with only 46 seconds remaining in regulation. The Blizzard thrilled the crowd with a last minute drive capped by WR Terry Love (5 receptions for 54 yards and 2 TDs) hauling in a Guidugli pass off the rebound net for a touchdown to force the game into overtime.
After winning the coin toss, the Blizzard deferred to their defense who came up with another big stand forcing a failed attempt for a Steamwheelers' field goal. The Blizzard offense stormed down the field positioning Forstrom for his game winning kick, undeniably lacing straight through the uprights.
The University of Wisconsin Badger Marching Band wowed the 5,714 fans in attendance with their halftime and legendary 5th
quarter performances. After the game fans were treated with a free scoop of custard courtesy of Culver's as the Blizzard scored 45 points, and added to the flavor giving everyone free hot dogs from Anduzzi's Bar and Grill as the team went over 50 points with their big divisional win.
