Horsemen lasso Mahoning Valley

Youngstown, OH. -Kentucky Horsemen Jared Lorenzen had a hand in xxx touchdowns as the Horsemen spoiled Thunder Head Coach Chris MacKeown's Mahoning Valley debut 61-39. After winning the season opener, Mahoning Valley has dropped eight straight games. With the win Kentucky improves to 5 and 4 and Mahoning Valley falls to 1-8.

Both teams combined to score 40 first quarter points beginning with Kentucky's first offensive play when Jared Lorenzen found the end zone by way of the ground from 15 yards out. The Thunder quickly answered when Quorey Payne took the ensuing kickoff back 58 yards for a score to even the game. Less than three minutes later Lorenzen found Fullback Demetrius Forney for a 10 yard scoring strike that gave Kentucky a 13-7 lead they would not relinquish. The Horsemen would find the end zone seven more times on the evening with the Thunder reaching pay dirt just five more times.

Kentucky's charge was led by Lorenzen who finished with 195 yards passing, four touchdowns and another three rushing scores. Justin Rascati also saw action under center throwing for a score and rushing for another. John Cooper did most of the damage for the receiving corps catching eight passes for 88 yards and a score.

Mahoning Valley was paced by Wide Receiver Quorey Payne who had game highs of 11 catches and 143 yards. Payne added two receiving touchdowns and his 58 yard first quarter kickoff return touchdown tied a team record for longest return. Quarterback Blake Powers completed 23 of 42 passes for 259 yards and three touchdowns but was intercepted twice. Powers added two rushing scores and finished with 26 yards on the ground.

Up next for the Thunder is a visit to Milwaukee on Friday, June 5th to take on the expansion Iron. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. Mahoning Valley will be trying to erase a road losing streak that spans 16 games dating back to the 2007 season.
