Lancaster Stormers News Release
LANCASTER, Pa.-The Lancaster Barnstormers have signed former American League right-hander Rick Bauer to a 2010 contract, it was announced today.
Bauer, 33, signed with the Baltimore Orioles in 1997 and advanced through their organization, finally making it to the Major Leagues in 2001. He spent a portion of five consecutive seasons in Baltimore, including the 2002 season when he made 56 appearances, posting a 3.98 ERA.
The Garden Grove, CA native moved to the Texas Rangers in 2006 and appeared 58 times with a 3-1 record and 3.55 ERA. Bauer also worked for the Cleveland Indians briefly in 2008. Overall, he has appeared in 187 big league games, mostly in relief, with an 11-14 career record and three saves. His lifetime ERA is 4.51.
Bauer first came to the Atlantic League early last season, making three starts for the York Revolution before spending the remainder of the season in Asia. He was with the Long Island Ducks this year, going 3-9 with a 5.49 ERA in 15 starts. He faced the Barnstormers twice, going 0-1 but allowing only nine hits and five earned runs in 13 innings of work.
"I'm excited to have an arm of his quality on our staff," said manager Tom Herr. "I know his numbers have not been as good as one would expect, but I am going with what I saw, and he looked very good the two times he faced us."
His addition brings the active roster to 25 players, the league limit.
