Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release
Catcher Christian Lopez's RBI bloop single into shallow rightfield with one out in the tenth gave the Blue Crabs the 4-3 victory against the Lancaster Barnstormers Wednesday night at Regency Furniture Stadium.
Lopez's base hit scored leftfielder Jason Lane, who led off the inning with walk. The Blue Crabs were held scoreless through eight innings, but then tied the game in the ninth. Lopez hit a one out single and scored on third baseman Kody Kirkland's RBI double to cut the Barnstormer lead to 3-1. Then second baseman Casey Benjamin knocked a game-tying two run homer to leftfield.
RHP Ryan Speier (1-1) earned his first win of the season as he pitched the tenth for the Crabs. Barnstormer RHP Tim McNab blew the save in the ninth and fellow righty Charlie Weatherby dropped to 1-1, pitching just 0.1 innings before surrendering the walk off single.
The Blue Crabs return to action Thursday morning at 11:05 a.m. for the finale of this three game series against the Lancaster Barnstormers. LHP Craig Anderson (4-1, 2.59) will start for Southern Maryland opposite RHP Ben Fritz (2-5, 3.30) for Lancaster.
