Barnstormers Release 2009 Schedule

DES MOINES - The locally-owned Iowa Barnstormers today released the team's 2009 regular season schedule. The team will open on the road March 27 against the expansion Milwaukee Iron before returning to Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Field for an April 4 home opener against Tulsa.

The 'Stormers, who finished second in 2008 af2 attendance drawing an average of 9,341 fans per game, will play all eight home games on Saturdays. In addition to home and away match-ups with Central Division rivals Green Bay, Milwaukee, Peoria, and Quad City, the 'Stormers also play a two-game set against the 2008 Arena Cup runner-up and perennial af2 attendance leader Spokane Shock.

"We are excited about the prospects for the 2009 season," said team president Jeff Lamberti. "In addition to maintaining a fan friendly and affordable entertainment option for Iowans, our organization's goals include bringing a Central Division crown and an Arena Cup championship to Des Moines. I am confident we are on the right track toward meeting those goals."

Lamberti also noted that the building blocks for the 2009 season are already being put into place as Head Coach John Gregory and his staff has been extremely active in scouting and signing players for the Barnstormers 2009 training camp. "We anticipate announcing a number of significant player signings over the coming weeks that are key in making the 'Stormers a title contender," concluded Lamberti.

Once again this season, all Iowa Barnstormers home games will be played on Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Field at Wells Fargo Arena. All eight home games will be played on Saturday evenings with a scheduled kickoff time of 7:05pm. The complete 2009 Iowa Barnstormers regular season schedule is attached.
