Amarillo Venom News Release

Amarillo, TX (11/11/08) - Just months after trekking all the way to the arenafootball2 conference finals in 2008, the Amarillo Dusters finalized their schedule for 2009.

The team announced Tuesday they will kick off their fifth season of play on March 27, 2009 at the Amarillo Civic Center, when the Dusters take on division rival Oklahoma City at 7:00 PM.

As for the rest of the league, arenafootball2 (af2) begins its 10th anniversary season with a special kickoff weekend that features a pair of intriguing divisional games. The League's opening weekend gets started on Friday, March 20, with a West Division battle as the Tri-Cities Fever travel to Fresno, Calif. to take on the Central Valley Coyotes. On Saturday, March 21, the Florida Firecats host the South Georgia Wildcats in a South Division showdown.

Twenty of the remaining 21 teams in the af2, with the exception of Spokane, get their seasons started in Week 1 (March 27-29). The 2008 ArenaCup runner-up Shock begin their fourth af2 campaign on Friday, April 3 when they host Stockton.

"This schedule encompasses the best af2 has to offer in terms of competition, rivalry and balance," says af2 President Jerry Kurz. "We're excited by the addition of Milwaukee to our league family and feel that this, our 10th season, will be our most competitive and most entertaining ever."

Other matchups for the defending National Conference runner-up Dusters include a April 4th game at home against the Arkansas Twisters, a May 2nd matchup in Amarillo against Tulsa, and the team's final home game against the Stockton Lightning on July 18. The entire 2009 Amarillo Dusters schedule is listed below.

Each team in the league will play a total of 16 games (eight home/eight away). Thirteen (13) teams make up the American Conference and twelve (12) make up the National Conference. Divisions are re-aligned for 2009, placing the Dusters in the three-team Central Division along with the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz and the Tulsa Talons.

The league's 18-week, 200-game regular season schedule concludes on July 25.

THE AMARILLO DUSTERS are a member of the 25-team arenafootball2 league, and part of the Arena Football family. The team front office is now located at 901 S. Buchanan in downtown Amarillo. Season ticket packages for 2009 are available by calling (806) 350-PASS (7277), and start at just $96 a seat.
