Firebirds Unveil 2009 Game Schedule

ALBANY, NY - The Albany Firebirds announced today their complete game schedule for the upcoming 2009 af2 season, including their home opener on Friday, April 10th versus the Florida Firecats.
The 2009 af2 season officially kicks off on March 20th, 2009, with the Firebirds beginning their season on the road at the Mahoning Valley Thunder on Saturday, March 29th at 7:05 pm.
After playing the first two weeks on the road, the Firebirds' home opener will come in Week 3 on Friday, April 10th at 7:00 pm against the Florida Firecats at the Times Union Center. Albany's two bye weeks will come in Week 9 and Week 15.
"We are very excited for the upcoming Firebirds season, our eighth year of af2 football," said Albany Firebirds President/CEO S. Garen Szablewski. "This year's schedule has many intriguing elements, including games against the expansion Milwaukee Iron, along with five division home games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Mahoning Valley and Manchester, the first trip in franchise history to Bossier-Shreveport and the return of the Florida Firecats to the Times Union Center for the first time since 2007."
The Firebirds 2009 home schedule features three Friday night and four Saturday night match-ups, along with one Saturday afternoon game. All Friday and Saturday night home games are slated for 7:00 p.m. kick-offs. The lone Saturday afternoon home game will begin at 1:00 p.m. on May 16, 2009.
Each team will play a total of 16 games (eight home/eight away). The alignment consists of the American and National Conference with three divisions per conference. The East, Midwest and South Divisions fall into the American Conference, while the Central, Southwest and West compose the National Conference. Thirteen (13) teams make up the American Conference and twelve (12) make up the National Conference. The league's 18-week, 200-game regular season schedule concludes on July 25.
