Lancaster Stormers News Release
The Lancaster Barnstormers slugged three home runs in the second game of a day-night doubleheader for a 7-3 victory over the York Revolution and a split of the twin-bill.
York took the opener, 7-4, on two pairs of consecutive long balls.
The split maintained a five-game lead for the Barnstormers in the Freedom Division. Lancaster and York each have eight games remaining in the first half.
Jaime Pedroza gave Lancaster a 2-0 jump in the nightcap with a two-run homer onto the hillside in left off Chris Waters (1-1) in the second. Two innings later, Ryan Harvey drilled a liner off the facing of the picnic deck to lead off, and Emerson Frostad tattooed a two-out solo shot into the screen.
Still, it took an incredible escape by eighth-year Barnstormer Ross Peeples (1-0) to keep the lead on the Lancaster side.
Horacio Ramirez, making a spot start spun four shutout innings, but the Revs scrambled back into the game off reliever Les Walrond. In the fifth, Kyle Haines doubled on a sinking liner to center and scored on Scott Grimes' two-out single to center. York ignited another rally in the sixth as Andres Perez led off with a towering homer to left. Michael Hernandez walked, took second on a wild pitch and scored when Travis Scott roped a single to left center.
Manager Butch Hobson went to Ching-Lung Lo, who walked Danny Gonzalez, adding a second runner. Haines moved both up with a sacrifice bunt.
That's when Peeples tossed the life preserver. He struck out Rian Kiniry swinging for the second out. Brandon Haveman, a second straight left-handed batter, bounced out to short to end the threat.
For his efforts, Peeples was awarded the victory upon the discretion of the official scorer. Lancaster salted the game away with three unearned runs in the bottom of the inning.
In the opener, it was York which used a spree of long balls. Gonzalez reached J.D. Durbin (3-6) for a two-run shot to right in the top of the second, and Liu Rodriguez followed with a drive into the right center field net. The Revs tacked on a fourth run in the third on an RBI single by Kiniry.
Lancaster did charge back in the bottom of the third. Brad Boyer led off with a homer onto the deck. Two outs later, Fehlandt Lentini singled to left and scored on Terry Tiffee's double into right center. Tommy Everidge, in his first game since being injured on June 15, ripped a single down the left field line to bring Tiffee across, cutting the lead to one.
That would be as close as Lancaster would get against Corey Thurman (7-1). York scored an unearned run on a bases loaded bobble in the fifth, and the score remained, 5-3, until the ninth when Ramon Castro and Perez whacked back-to-back homers.
The series concludes on Sunday at 6:00. Lancaster will send Dwayne Pollok (4-0) to the mound against right-hander Omar Javier (0-5). Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; 1600-AM, WPDC; 1390wlan.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app, beginning at 5:45.
