Bayliss Leads Bluefish to Victory

(Bridgewater, N.J.) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (27-35) won the teams' second straight contest as the road squad defeated the Somerset Patriots (29-33) by a score of 5-1 at TD Bank Ballpark on Saturday. Bridgeport is now 4-5 against Somerset this season.

With the score tied at one in the top of the seventh, Eddie Rogers smacked a two-run double to give the Bluefish the lead for the rest of the night. On offense, Bridgeport scored four runs in the final three innings on offense.

Brock Peterson smacked his Atlantic League leading fourteenth homer of the season. The shot to left in the fourth gave the road team a one-run lead at the time. The first baseman served an RBI single in the eighth as he finished with two hits and drove in two. He has three homers in the last five games. Rogers picked up two doubles and drove in three runners for the winning side. Elliott Ayala picked up two hits on the evening while James Simmons reached base twice.

Somerset's only run of the night came on an RBI sacrifice fly to left by Jeff Nettles in the sixth to tie the contest at one at the time.

Bridgeport hurler, Jonah Bayliss (2-4) earned the win as the righthanded starter delivered seven innings of one run, four hit, one walk, and five strikeout baseball. Juan Rincon and Jorge Julio combined to throw the final two innings while striking out two batters.

Patriots starter, Doug Arguello (3-3), suffered the loss as the southpaw completed seven innings and surrendered three runs, four hits, and one walk while fanning ten Bridgeport batters. Andrew Dobies and Carlton Smith finished off the rest of the game as the duo tossed two frames and gave up two runs on five hits and one walk.

The Bluefish finish a four-game road series against the Somerset Patriots on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM. Bridgeport will send lefthanded starter Gilbert De La Vara (3-4, 4.30 ERA), to the hill against righthanded hurler Mike MacDonald (2-4, 4.00 ERA). The pre-game show airs twenty minutes before each first pitch.
