York Revolution News Release

On a weekend where insurance has been a hot topic, Ramon Castro and Andres Perez did their part for the York Revolution (33-28) Saturday afternoon. Their back-to-back solo home runs in the top of the ninth inning gave the Revs a 7-3 lead, as York hung on for a 7-4 win at Clipper Magazine Stadium over the rival Lancaster Barnstormers (37-24) in game one of a day-night doubleheader.

The shots from Castro and Perez were the second back to back homers of the day for York, who accomplished the feat twice in the same game for the first time in franchise history. In the second inning, Danny Gonzalez (2-run) and Liu Rodriguez put York ahead 3-0, a lead they would not relinquish.

The history was fast and furious on Saturday afternoon for York, as Corey Thurman threw seven solid innings, improving to 7-1 on the season. The Revolution all-time wins leader now has 45 for his Atlantic League career, which puts him in a four-way tie for third in league history.

A leadoff walk to Michael Hernandez set the table for a mammoth blast to right by Gonzalez in the second with one out, before Rodriguez homered right behind him to the right field alley for the Revs' first three runs. It was the second home run of the season for both Gonzalez and Rodriguez. An RBI single from Rian Kiniry in the third made it 4-0 York.

Lancaster struck back in the home half of the third however, sending seven men to the plate, scoring thrice in Thurman's lone rough inning. A leadoff Brad Boyer solo home run, followed by a Terry Tiffee RBI double and a Tommy Everidge RBI single provided the offense for the Barnstormers.

Thurman settled down in a hurry following the third, and was mostly untouched through the seventh. His final line showed three earned runs on seven hits, with three walks and two strikeouts.

After Castro scored on an error by the second baseman Boyer with the bases loaded and two out in the fifth the score was 5-3 York. That score remained in the ninth, when he went opposite field for a home run over the short porch in right field to make it 6-3 with one out. Andres Perez followed and made the history with York's fourth home run of the day, and the second back-to-back jack. He pulled his out to left, and the Revs took a 7-3 lead to the bottom of the ninth. It was Castro's 10th long ball of the season, tying Hernandez for the team lead. For Perez, it was his 9th homer.

Adam Thomas, who entered in relief of Kris Regas with one out in the eighth, picked up the four out save despite allowing two hits and an RBI single to Boyer to start his ninth. He would quiet Lancaster from there however with three straight outs, including a strike out. Thomas entered with York up 7-3 in the eighth, but since the tying run was at the plate when he came in after inheriting a walk from Regas, it was a save situation. Thomas now has three saves on the year.

With the victory, York leads Lancaster 6-2 in the 2012 War of The Roses Series, and 55-49 all-time, 58-51 including playoffs. The Revolution are now 4-1 at Clipper Magazine Stadium in Lancaster this season. The victory also shaved Lancaster's lead in the Freedom Division to four games, with nine to play in the first half.

The Revs have won nine of their last 11 overall and have tied the club record for wins in a month, now 19-10 this June, matching the wins total set by the 2007 Revs in the month of July that season.

York will go for the day-night doubleheader sweep on Saturday night at 7 p.m. with Chris Waters (1-0, 2.46) opposing Lancaster's Horacio Ramirez (0-0, 1.50). Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350 and Shoutcast.com (YorkRevs) beginning at 6:30 with Darrell Henry on the call.
