Barnstormers Complete Roster with Five Additions

DES MOINES - Iowa Barnstormers Head Coach and Director of Football Operations John Gregory announced today that the Arena Football League franchise has reached agreement with DB Luis Alvarez, DB Chris Singleton, DL Chris White, LB Sam Smith and OL Maurice Harris for the 2011 season.
Alvarez (5-10, 185) joins the Barnstormers for his rookie season in the AFL. He spent the 2008-09 seasons playing for Wingate University where in 18 career games he compiled 66 tackles (42 solo) and 7 pass breakups. From 2006-07 he played at Snow College, leading the team to a conference title in 2007.
Singleton (5-10, 194) also joins the Barnstormers for his rookie campaign in the AFL. Singleton played for four seasons at Iowa State University from 2005-08, where he was a three year starter at Defensive Back. For his career, he totaled 127 tackles and 5 interceptions, including a team high 4 in 2007.
White, (6-0, 240) returns for a second season with the Barnstormers. He was signed to a contract late last season, appearing in the team's final two games. The Marian University alumnus was named an NAIA all American and All-Conference in 2008. He recorded 76 career tackles (52 solo) and holds the schools all-time record for sacks in one season with 6.
Smith (6-0,200) joins the Barnstormers for his first season in the AFL. Smith spent time with the New England Patriots organization in 2006, before he was released. He played college football at Delaware State University where in two seasons he accounted for 179 tackles and 19 sacks. Smith was named to the All-MEAC first team in both 2005 and 2006.
Harris (6-6, 345) is joining the Barnstormers for his first season in the AFL. However, he does have experience playing Arena Football as he was a member of the Quad City Steamwheelers (af2) from 2006-07. Harris is a graduate of Iowa Central.
To make room for these 5 additions, Coach Gregory also announced that the following players have been placed on Refuse to Report; OL Michael Dansby, LB Chris Robinson, DB Jarvis Johnson, DB Nick Clement and DB Clarence Ward. The Barnstormers training camp is officially underway with practices taking place nightly at 6:00pm at the Jacobson Exhibition Center located at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
