Lancaster Stormers News Release

When Camden third baseman Brett Bonvechio popped out to third baseman Ivanon Coffie in the eighth inning it marked the first time all night that anything off his bat was handled cleanly from start to finish Monday night.

So went a game in which Lancaster made eight errors as Camden downed the Barnstormers, 8-1.

Eric Ackerman (0-3) was the victim of the bizarre octet, a club record. The left-hander allowed eight hits and eight runs in six innings while walking none and striking out three.

It all started in the first inning. With one out, Nic Jackson departed first base as Ackerman threw over. Manny Mejia fumbled the ball attempting to fire to second base. That was error number one. Bonvechio singled to center, scoring Jackson, and Bonvechio moved up when the throw to the plate went to the backstop. Josh Rabe also singled up the middle, moving Bonvechio to third, and L.J. Biernbaum hit into a force play scoring the second run.

Richard Lewis crushed a ground rule double to right center to open the third. Bonvechio hit a topper up the first base line which was fielded by Ackerman who then hit the runner. Rabe hit into a force play, driving home Lewis, and took second when Juan Francia's relay throw skipped into the dugout.

Biernbaum and Jason Phillips each singled, and Ron Davenport reached when Mejia mishandled his grounder. Gary Cates blew the lead to 7-0 with a three-run triple into the right field corner.

Chris Young (3-3) took a shutout into the seventh before Danny Gonzalez doubled to right and scored on a single to left by Jutt Hileman.

NOTES: Ivanon Coffie doubled in the eighth for his first Atlantic League base hit...The RBI for Hileman was his 10th in the last eight games...RHP Josh Hall (0-0) will square off against LHP Sean Thompson (1-0) Tuesday night at 7:05.
