
Patriots Pitcher Travis Minix Signed By Phillies

Bridgewater, NJ- The Three-Time Atlantic League Champion Somerset Patriots have announced that right-handed relief pitcher Travis Minix has been signed by the Philadelphia Phillies organization and will report to Double-A in Reading.
Minix had a 1.59 ERA, a save, and 17 strikeouts in 17 innings pitched in 13 games. Minix has three seasons of Triple-A experience in the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and Philadelphia Phillies organizations. He has a minor league career 27-19 record, a 2.91 ERA, and 471 strikeouts in 525.1 innings pitched in 328 games.
Minix is the third Patriots pitcher signed this week by a Major League organization. Starter Brandon Knight was signed by the New York Mets and closer Bret Prinz signed with the Oakland A's.
The Patriots have signed right-handed pitcher Brock Till. Till has played his entire career before joining Somerset with the Cincinnati Reds, including a season at the Triple-A level last year.
Till has a minor league career 22-16 record with a 3.92 ERA and 278 strikeouts in 365 innings pitched in 177 games.
The Patriots will also activate left-hander pitcher Andy Van Hekken for Monday night's game against the Long Island Ducks. Van Hekken started the 2008 season with Somerset before leaving to play in Mexico.
Van Hekken finished the 2007 season among the Atlantic League leaders with a 9-3 record, a 3.12 ERA, and 83 strikeouts in 115.1 innings pitched in 18 games started for the Patriots last season before leaving to play in Taiwan. Van Hekken started in 13 games during the 2006 season for the Patriots before signing with the Kansas City Royals organization.
Van Hekken has Major League experience with the Detroit Tigers, where he had a 3.00 ERA in five games played. Van Hekken has six seasons of Triple-A experience in the Royals, Tigers, Atlanta Braves, and Cincinnati Reds organizations.
