Barnstormers Catcher Signed by Houston

LANCASTER, Pa.-Lancaster Barnstormers catcher Emerson Frostad has been signed by the Houston Astros, it was announced today by manager Butch Hobson.

Frostad, 28, will join the Astros Class AA club in Corpus Christi, Texas. He is the second 2011 Barnstormer signed by a Major League organization this season. LHP Les Walrond was acquired by the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday, May 27.

With the Barnstormers, Frostad was batting .280 with two homers and 11 RBI in 15 games with the Barnstormers. He hit a walkoff home run against Bridgeport on May 14 and was 4-for-4 against Somerset on May 18.

Prior to coming to Lancaster, Frostad spent seven years in the Texas Rangers organization, peaking at Class AAA. He had a .258 career average with 63 home runs.

He will be replaced on the roster by catcher Angel Flores. Flores, 24, spent parts of six seasons in the Detroit Tigers organization, including two games with Class AAA Toledo last season. He also played a portion of the 2010 season with New Jersey of the Can-Am League, batting .248 in 34 games.

The Barnstormers face the Camden Riversharks at Campbell's field on Wednesday and Thursday night before returning home to host the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on June 3. Friday night's game kicks off a 10-game home stand with a visit from the Phillie Phanatic.
