Barnstormers Bulk up with Bowser and Whitley

DES MOINES -The Iowa Barnstormers continued to add to their 2012 roster as Head Coach and Director of Football Operations Mike Hohensee announced that the team has agreed to terms with Wide Receiver Deryn Bowser and OL/DL Darnell Whitley.
Bowser (6-1, 212) played his college football at the University of Akron. In two seasons with the Zips, he started 17 of 18 games and registered 85 receptions for 1,092 yards and 9 touchdowns. Prior to his time at Akron, Bowser spent two years at Los Angeles Harbor College where he set school records with 109 receptions and 19 touchdowns. The Los Angeles, CA native, most recently participated in the Arizona Cardinals training camp before being released. "We're excited about the style of play Deryn brings to the Barnstormers. He is a big, physical play maker who attacks the ball," stated Hohensee.
Whitley (6-6, 330) is an experienced and versatile player who has 3 years of Arena Football experience. The Waldorf College alumnus began his Arena Football career playing for the Peoria Pirates of the af2 in 2009. While in Peoria he crossed paths with Coach Hohensee, who recruited him to play in Chicago in 2010. Last season, Whitley followed Hohensee to Philadelphia and had his most successful season yet. He appeared in 11 games at both OL and FB. He was a key contributor in short-yardage situations, rushing for 51 yards and 7 touchdowns, while also catching 4 passes for 52 yards and a touchdown.
When asked to comment on Whitley, Hohensee said "Darnell is a tremendous leader. He was Philadelphia's best offensive front player in 2011 and will be instrumental in developing a winning atmosphere and culture throughout the Barnstormers organization."
Bowser and Whitley will be among a group of 35 players that report to the Barnstormers training camp this February to compete for a spot with the club.
