Tampa Bay Storm News Release
TAMPA BAY - Tampa Bay Storm fullback/linebacker Eric Ortiz will return to the Storm for 2012 and offensive lineman Jamar Bass and wide receiver Victor Williams were also added to the roster announced head coach Dave Ewart.
"We added some toughness to the roster today," said Ewart. "Eric fought through several injuries last season and kept plugging away. Meanwhile, Victor is a big physical receiver and Jamar is the big strong type of kid you want on the offensive line."
Ortiz (6-foot-3, 240 lbs., Belhaven) returns to the Storm for his third season. In 2011 he appeared in 11 games and tallied 14.5 tackles and a forced fumble on defense and rushed for three touchdowns while fighting through injuries to his elbow and shoulder throughout the season.
"Being from Tampa, I am really excited to return to the Storm," added Ortiz. "I see a lot of potential with the ownership change and the direction the organization is headed. I was banged up quite a bit last season and have been working hard rehabbing; I am excited to get back on the field healthy in 2012 for my third season."
Williams (6-4, 225, Northern Iowa) will enter his third season in the AFL and first with the Storm. In 2011 he spent time with the Cleveland Gladiators and the Milwaukee Mustangs and caught 52 passes for 579 yards and 10 touchdowns in 14 games. He spent his rookie season, 2010, with the Cleveland Gladiators where he caught 29 passes for 331 yards and six touchdowns. Williams has also seen action at the Jack linebacker position and has 18.5 career tackles, two interceptions, one returned for a touchdown and a fumble recovery. A Florida native, Williams prepped at Clewiston H.S. (Clewiston, FL).
Bass (6-4, 310, South Florida) will enter his rookie season with the Storm. A two-year starter at USF (2009-2010), he appeared in 24 games and started 14 of those games at left tackle. Prior to joining the Bulls, Bass was a standout at Hutchison Community College where he earned All-Jayhawk honors in 2008. He redshirted at Fort Scott Community College after graduating from Apopka H.S. (Apopka, FL).
