Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING, Mich. - The first 10 Quad Cities River Bandits (8-10) reached base in the seventh inning, scoring seven runs, on their way to rallying for a 10-4 rain-shortened victory over the Lansing Lugnuts (10-8) on Friday night at Jackson® Field.
The game was played in increasingly windy, rainy conditions, and was eventually halted due to the inclement weather before the start of the eighth inning.
Trailing 4-3 entering the seventh inning, Javier Vaz tripled off Brock Whittlesey and Cayden Wallace singled him in to tie the score. After Whittlesey walked Gavin Cross, Luke Anderson entered from the Lansing pen. Anderson fell behind Carter Jensen before issuing an intentional walk to load the bases, and Juan Carlos Negret followed with a three-run double for a 7-4 River Bandits lead. Herard González singled and Anderson plunked Jack Alexander to reload the bases before issuing consecutive walks to Shervyen Newton and Jack Pineda to force in two runs. Vaz, batting for a second time, singled in Alexander, prompting a call to the bullpen to Mac Lardner.
Lardner struck out Wallace and Cross and induced a groundout to second from Jensen, ending the inning.
The Lugnuts then went down in order in the bottom of the seventh against Quad Cities reliever Luis Barroso before the umpiring crew of Cliburn Rondon and Charles Welling called for the tarp. After a 48-minute delay, the game was called.
In the loss for Lansing, catcher Daniel Susac went 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored, and center fielder Caeden Trenkle finished 1-for-4 with an RBI single to extend his on-base streak to 16 games.
Lugnuts starter Joelvis Del Rosario allowed three runs on five hits and three walks in five innings, striking out two, in a no-decision.
Saturday is the first Lansing Locos game of the year, celebrating Copa de la Diversión. Right-hander Jacob Watters takes on Quad Cities right-hander Mason Barnett at 6:05 p.m., with gates opening at 5 p.m.
