CHARLESTON, W.V. - A six-run seventh inning led the West Virginia Power to a 13-6 romp over the Charleston RiverDogs in South Atlantic League action Saturday night in front of a crowd of 2,633 fans at Appalachian Power Park.

West Virginia upped its mark to 8-15 this half and 43-48 overall with the win, while Charleston dropped to 10-13 and 36-57.

The RiverDogs registered a first inning run to take a 1-0 lead against Power starter Tyler Waldron. Eduardo Sosa rapped a single through the box and moved to second on a fielding error. A pair of groundouts advanced Sosa to third, and he made the journey down the line to score the game's first run on Gary Sanchez's RBI single.

Charleston starter Zach Nuding struck out the first two batters he faced, but could not find the third out before West Virginia tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first.

Mel Rojas legged out an infield single, and Dan Grovatt pinch ran for him and moved into scoring position by swiping second base. Justin Howard then followed with a RBI single up the middle to drive home Grovatt.

West Virginia piled it on Nuding in the bottom of the second, plating three runs to forge a 4-1 lead.

Kawika Emsley-Pai worked a leadoff walk, and Chase Lyles and Rogelio Noris stroked back-to-back singles to load the bases with nobody out. Nuding then uncorked a wild pitch to score the first run of the frame, and Kevin Mort chased home another for a 3-1 advantage with a RBI groundout. Andy Vasquez capped the rally two batters later by executing a textbook bunt down the third base line.

Waldron recovered from his first inning to set down the RiverDogs in order in the second, but Charleston erupted for four runs to push back in front at 5-4 in the third.

Sosa and Anderson Feliz were issued free passes, and Ramon Flores lined a single to fill the sacks for Sanchez. Waldron struck out the 18-year old Dominican catcher, but Kevin Mahoney picked him up by scalding a bases clearing double over the head of Grovatt in center field to knot the tally. Waldron then suffered from a bout of wildness, letting loose two wild pitches to usher Mahoney in from second base.

Waldron was yanked after laboring in the third, lasting only 2.2 innings while yielding the five runs on five hits and three walks, while fanning two.

Nuding settled in after the second and penned 5.0 workmanlike frames, permitting the four runs (three earned) on seven hits and a walk, while striking out three.

The Power took control against the RiverDogs bullpen, evening the ledger in the sixth before busting it wide open with a six-run seventh.

Charleston's Manny Barreda yielded the sixth inning marker, as Andrew Maggi clubbed an RBI double to center to send in Mort, who had stroked a two-out single to keep the line moving.

Tommy Kahnle (1-4) was next out of the RiverDogs bullpen in the seventh, and was roughed up as the Power notched six runs on the strength of four hits, two walks, and two Charleston errors to lay claim to a commanding 11-5 cushion.

Grovatt got the merry-go-round started with a single and was pushed to second on a balk. Justin Howard and Emsley-Pai then walked to load the sacks once more. Lyles stepped into the box next and reached on a fielding error by Feliz, plating two runs for a 7-5 Power advantage.

With the lead already in tow, West Virginia added four insurance runs. Noris pounded a two-run single to left, Mort roped a RBI double to left, and Vasquez rounded out the harm with a RBI double of his own to force Kahnle from the hill.

Kahnle was tagged for six runs (three earned) in 0.2 of an inning, allowing four hits and two walks, while managing to fan one along the way.

West Virginia's Victor Black (2-0) was the beneficiary of the outburst, authoring an inning of scoreless relief to garner the victory.

The Power kept at it in the eighth, adding two more runs against Yobanny Reyes to up their lead to 13-5.

Howard hammered a double to start the damage, and Cole White and Emsley-Pai walked to load the bases yet again. Lyles came into the batter's box next and was plunked, as Howard trotted in from third for a 12-5 advantage. Andrew Maggi was hit by a pitch as well three batters later, plating White to sum up the Power's outstanding offensive performance.

Charleston scratched out a run against Tyler Ennis in the ninth to account for the final tally of a wild affair, as Flores smoked a RBI double to score Jose Toussen.

The RiverDogs and Power play the middle contest of their three-game set on Sunday at 2:05 p.m. Right-hander Nathan Forer (1-4, 4.26 ERA) is scheduled to make his second start of the season for Charleston, versus left-hander Colton Cain (5-7, 3.15 ERA) of West Virginia.
