Bakersfield Condors News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - It was déjà vu for the Bakersfield Condors, as they lost 2-1 to a division foe for the second straight game. Wednesday night it was the Stockton Thunder knocking off the Condors, in front of 4,107 at Stockton Arena.
For the second straight night on the road, Bakersfield (30-13-7, 67 points) struck first. On the power-play, Sean Venedam circled the Stockton net before feeding Kevin St. Jacques, who banged home his 17th of the season past a sliding Cam Ellsworth to make it 1- 0 at 16:00 of the first period.
Also like Tuesday night, the Condors opponent scored early in the second period to tie it up. Stockton (22-16-10, 54 points) worked the puck down low, and Jim Dahl slammed home a feed from Stephane Goulet to make it 1-1 at 5:08.
The Thunder grabbed the lead just :26 into the third, when Tim Sestito popped a loose puck past Jamie Hodson for a 2-1 lead.
The Condors pressured and had some chances late with the goaltender pulled for an extra attacker, but were unable to net the equalizer.
Notes: Bakersfield acquired rookie defenseman Mark Malone from the Wheeling Nailers in exchange for future considerations. Malone is expected to join the team in Phoenix for Friday's game.
The Condors' unbeaten streak was snapped at a season-high nine games (6-0-3). Bakersfield is now 3-3-0 against the Thunder this season, including 2-2- 0 at Stockton.
Friday, it's the first meeting of the year against the Phoenix RoadRunners, a 6:11 p.m. tilt in Phoenix. Bakersfield returns home Saturday, Feb. 24 for a re- match against the RoadRunners, and it's KGET-TV 17, The Big 96.5 KBKO & McDonald's Youth Jersey Giveaway night, with the first 2,000 children, 12-and- under, receiving a replica jersey of Condors defenseman Reagan Leslie.
