Pensacola Ice Pilots News Release
PENSACOLA, FL - For the second consecutive game the Pensacola Ice Pilots fired seven goals and for a second straight night the result was the same. The Ice Pilots posted their most one-sided win of the season, blasting the Columbia Inferno 7-1 on Thursday night at The Hangar.
It was the Ice Pilots fourth win against the Inferno this season, but just the first time they have beaten them at home. The victory also marked the fifth time this season that the Ice Pilots have scored at least seven goals in a game.
The Ice Pilots improved their record to 17-34-1-1 for 36 points and 10-13-1-1 at home, just three games now below .500 at The Hangar.
The night did not start well for the Ice Pilots as they fell behind 1-0 early in the opening period thanks to an Inferno power play goal. However, after that it was all Blue and Gold as they scored two straight to make it 2-1 after 20 minutes. John Hecimovic notched both goals with David Wrigley adding a pair of assists. Rob Rankin and Jesse Baraniuk earned single helpers. It was the third time in four games that Hecimovic had a two goal performance.
The Ice Pilots blew the game open in the second period, scoring three times. Eric Johnson had two of the goals on great shots, while David Wrigley added a single.
In the third period the goals kept on coming as Rich Meloche made it 6-1 at the 57 second mark and then Rene Gauthier rounded out the scoring at 10:42.
Greg Watson and Jesse Baraniuk each had two assists in the game and defenseman Derrick Byfuglien was plus four.
Michael Mole was outstanding between the pipes again, notching his 11th win of the season and second in a row.
There were a total of eight power plays in the game with each team scoring once.
These two teams will meet again tomorrow night (Friday) at 7:05 pm at The Hangar. The first 1,500 fans through the doors will receive an Ice Pilots poster courtesy of Dlux Printing.
