Baker wins post-season honors

(Sioux City, IA) ­ The Northern League announced today that Sioux City outfielder, Casey Baker, has been selected as the Northern League Rookie of the Year for the 2004 season. Baker just finished his second season with the Explorers last week.

Baker received 26 of 31 votes cast by team executives, managers, and media to earn Rookie of the Year honors. The 25-year-old batted .337, fifth highest in the league, with two homers and 36 RBI in 82 games in 2004. The left-handed batter had the league¹s longest hitting streak of the season at 18 games.

In his first season (2003) with the Explorers, Casey hit .300 while playing in 69 of the team's 90 games. Baker made the team in 2003 by way of open tryout camp. Baker was a graduate of North High in Sioux City and attended Morningside, Iowa State and South Dakota after high school.
