Brian Mazone (pronounced: Muh zone) was named the All-Star Left-Handed Pitcher, and Josh Loggins was named an All-Star Outfielder. The Northern League's post season awards were voted on by the league's team executives, managers and media.
Mazone, 28, pitched for the JackHammers from the beginning of the season until the San Francisco Giants purchased his contract on August 2. In 14 starts, Mazone was 9-and-2 with a 1.73 ERA. He pitched four complete game shutouts. Mazone also walked just 15 batters, allowed 27 runs (20 earned), allowed 77 hits and struck out 95 batters in 104.1 innings pitched. Mazone's JackHammers season also included two one-hitters. He was twice named the Daktronics/Rawlings Northern League Pitcher of the Week. Mazone was the Daktronics/Rawlings Northern League Pitcher of the Month in July. He started the 2004 Northern League All-Star Game in Joliet on July 20 for the South Division and was named the game's Most Valuable Pitcher. After having his contract purchased by the Giants, Mazone pitched at Double-A Norwich and then Triple-A Fresno where he had much success at both levels. The 2004 season was Mazone's 6th in pro baseball.
