Indianapolis Indians News Release

INDIANAPOLIS -- Pinch hitter Jeff Bailey blasted a grand slam in the top of the ninth to lift Pawtucket past Indianapolis, 7-4, Wednesday afternoon at Victory Field.

The Red Sox improve to 27-31 overall, while the Indians fall to 33-25. Pawtucket still occupies fifth place in the International League's West Division, while Thursday will be the Tribe's 47th straight day atop the IL West.

The Red Sox answered a late Indianapolis rally with four runs in the ninth. Pawtucket loaded the bases when CF David Murphy walked, DH Dustan Mohr singled and 1B Hee-Seop Choi also drew a base on balls. Bailey then smoked his team-leading 12th roundtripper of the season -- a 364-foot shot down the left-field line.

Just one day after winning in come-from-behind fashion, the Tribe plated three runs in the eighth to take a 4-3 lead. 1B Chris Richard smashed a double to left center and came plateward on LF Raul Gonzalez's base knock to center. PR Rajai Davis advanced to second on 3B Chris Truby's walk before both runners moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. DH Mike Edwards followed with a groundout to score Davis with the tying run, while RF Adam Boeve drilled a double to bring home Truby with the go-ahead score.

Pawtucket grabbed an early lead with three runs in the first. RF Ron Calloway bounced a single up the middle and Murphy tagged a double to right before Calloway trotted home on Mohr's sacrifice fly. Then, after Choi was hit by a pitch, 3B Enrique Wilson smacked a two-run double to bring Murphy and Choi plateward.

The Indians pushed across one run in the sixth before taking the lead with the eighth-inning rally.

Murphy went 2-for-3 with one walk and two runs to lead Pawtucket. Boeve finished 3-for-4 with one RBI to pace Indianapolis. Richard and CF Rich Thompson also collected two hits apiece for the Tribe.

Red Sox RHP Tim Bausher (1.0 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 SO) allowed all three runs in the eighth, but still notched his first win of the campaign. RHP Brad Baker (1.0 IP) worked a perfect ninth for his first save of the season.

Indians RHP Terry Adams (0.0 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB) faced just two batters, but was pinned with his second loss of 2006.

Indianapolis wraps up its eight-game homestand Thursday night at 7 p.m. when the two clubs return to Victory Field. LHP Sean Burnett is scheduled to start for the Indians, while RHP Matt Ginter is expected to get the nod for the Red Sox.

The game will be carried by ESPN-950 AM and IndyIndians.com as Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley have the call. Thursday's pre-game show begins at 6:40 p.m.

The Indians will conduct a special Pre-Game Youth Clinic from 5:15-6:15 p.m. Participation is open to anyone 14 & under with a game ticket. The clinic will feature members of the 2006 team, manager Trent Jewett, pitching coach Jeff Andrews and hitting coach Hensley "Bam Bam" Meulens.
