TONIGHT'S GAME: The third of a four game series and the seventh of 16 meetings with the Knights, the third of eight at Knights Stadium. The Braves are 2-4 vs. the Knights, 1-1 on the road. Game three of an eight game road trip. Richmond is 1-1. The Braves were 8-8 vs. the Knights last season, 4-4 in Charlotte. This is the 20th of 48 games vs. South Division opponents, Richmond is 7-12 vs. the South. The 10th of 24 road games vs. South Division opponents (Richmond is 4-5). Braves are 103-118 vs. Charlotte all-time. The Braves are third in the South, 16.5 and a half games behind first place Charlotte. The Knights lead the division by 12 games over Durham.
LAST NIGHT'S GAME: The Knights beat the Braves 4-3 Tuesday at Knights Stadium. The Knights scored three runs in the second inning and held on to even their series with the Braves at a game each. The Braves took a 1-0 lead in the second on an RBI single by Dax Norris. The Knights moved in front to stay in the second on a three run homer by Tim Hummel. The Knights pushed their advantage to 4-1 in the fourth on a run producing ground out by Jorge Velandia. Scott Thorman knocked in a run with a fifth inning single to trim the Knights lead to 4-2. Cesar Crespo drilled a home run in the ninth to pull the Braves within a run but Javier Lopez came on to close Richmond out. Charlie Haeger earned the win. Lopez picked up a save. Brian O'Connor took the loss. Hummel and Damian Rolls had two hits each for the Knights. Thorman had two hits for the Braves.
STREAKERS: Scott Thorman has hits in eight straight games (13-32 .406). He has four straight multiple hit games (eight for his last 16). Thorman has knocked in runs in seven straight games. He is the current IL Batter of the Week. Bill McCarthy's seven game hitting streak ended last night. His three game home run streak ended yesterday. Martin Prado has hits in five straight games (9-21 .429). James Jurries has hits in six straight games (7-24 .292). Dax Norris is four for his last nine. RHP Phil Stockman has worked his last 16 innings in nine appearances without allowing a run and permitting just three hits. The Braves bullpen has worked 15 straight scoreless innings. The Braves have hit home runs in a season high four straight games. Three of the Braves last four games have been decided by one run.
LEADING MEN: Scott Thorman is seventh in the league in hitting (.312). He is second in home runs (13) and tied for fourth in RBI (38). He is second in hits (68). The Braves are second in the IL in stolen base percentage behind Charlotte. They have swiped 46 and have been caught 14 times (77.9%). Their 14 caught stealings is the fewest in the IL. The Braves four wins when trailing after eight innings is tops in the International League. The Braves seven shutouts is tied for second in the IL. Richmond is hitting .292 in six June games, that is third in the IL.
WE'RE GLOVIN' IT: Richmond has committed just one error in their last seven games. The Braves are on a pace to break the club record for fewest errors in a season (97 in 2004). Richmond is tied for second in the IL in fielding percentage. Brayan Pena (now with Atlanta) leads IL catchers in fielding percentage (1.000 in 31 games). The Braves have started at least three players at every position except second base this season.
BANGED UP: 3B Wes Timmons has been out since 5/19 with a broken thumb. 2B Martin Prado is day to day with a muscle pull. Bill McCarthy pinch hit last night after missing seven games with a sports hernia. RHP Anthony Lerew is on the DL.
