June 4, 2019 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Down East Wood Ducks News Release

Lynchburg, Va. - Jason Bahr fired five scoreless innings, while Ryan Dorow drove in three at the plate, to lead the Wood Duck past the Lynchburg Hillcats, 6-2, to take the series, Tuesday.

The Wood Ducks trim their magic number to four games to clinch the Carolina League Southern Division title for the first half.

Bahr (win, 5-1) produced another stellar start for the Woodies. He fired five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and two walks, while striking out six. He has now allowed two earned runs or fewer in all ten starts this season.

The Wood Ducks got on the board in the second inning. Yohel Pozo doubled off the wall in left field, and after a Yanio Perez infield single, Julio Pablo Martinez came through with an RBI groundout to put Down East (41-18) ahead, 1-0.

The Woodies added on in the third against Matt Solter (loss, 4-1). Yonny Hernandez and Leody Taveras worked back to back walks to begin the inning, and then Dorow, Diosbel Arias, and Sam Huff followed with three consecutive RBI singles to push the advantage to 4-0.

Solter lasted just 2.2 innings, giving up four runs on six hits, he walked three, and struck out two.

The Woodies added on against the Hillcats bullpen. In the sixth, Hernandez singled with two outs, and then Taveras followed with a walk. Dorow then laced a two-run single to center to increase the lead to 6-0. Taveras increased his on-base streak to 17 consecutive games.

Lynchburg plated both of their runs in the eighth inning. They loaded the bases against Wes Robertson, after he worked a scoreless seventh. Jefferson Medina came in from the bullpen and picked up a strikeout of Oscar Gonzalez, but on the play the ball got away from Pozo allowing Steve Kwan to score from third, and then Pozo made a throw down to first base allowing a second run to come across, in Gabriel Mejia.

Medina would record the final six outs of the ballgame, picking up four strikeouts in the process.

After an off day Wednesday, the Wood Ducks are back at Grainger Stadium on Thursday to kick off Farm Appreciation Weekend. It's Thirsty Thursday with $1 Natural Light and Busch Light cans. Left-hander John King (0-0, 2.05) will make the start for the Woodies, opposed by Keys lefty DL Hall (2-2, 4.11). First pitch is set for 7 p.m. and the broadcast will begin at 6:50 p.m. on 960AM The Bull, and online on 960thebull.com as well as the MiLB First Pitch and TuneIn Radio Apps.
