
Backstop Changes For Wizards

Fort Wayne, IN - The catching position for the Fort Wayne Wizards took on a new look late Friday when Brandon Gottier was added to the roster and Brian Hernandez was sent to the San Diego Padres Arizona rookie team.
Gottier split time between the Triple-A Portland Beavers and the High-A Lake Elsinore Storm this season.
With the Beavers, from mid-April to mid-May, he hit .118 in eight games with two runs scored. In Lake Elsinore of the California League, he hit .304 with three doubles, one triple, one home run and five runs batted in over the span of 17 games.
Hernandez appeared in 37 games with the Wizards, hitting .223 with a pair of doubles, one home run and nine runs batted in. His last game came on July 3rd against the West Michigan Whitecaps (Detroit Tigers affiliate) when he went 1-for-2 with a run and a walk.
Gottier spent the entire 2006 season with the Wizards, hitting .213 with 13 doubles, one home run and 16 RBI in 62 games. Behind the plate, the University of Pacific product, who signed a free agent contract with the Padres organization in 2005, was 22-of-56 in throwing out would-be base stealers for a .393 defensive average.
