
Kernels fall to Chiefs, 3-1

Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
The Cedar Rapids Kernels dropped the first game of a three game home series with the Peoria Chiefs, 3-1, in front of a crowd of 5,005 on Saturday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Mark Trumbo was 2 for 4 and Anderson Rosario was 2 for 3 with a double as the Kernels were held to six hits by Peoria pitchers. Matt Sweeney and Brian Walker had the other two hits for the Kernels.
Peoria starter Jake Renshaw (9-4) held the Kernels to five hits and an unearned run over six innings to get the win. Jeremy Papelbon struck out four over three innings of relief to earn his third save of the season. Kernels starter Jeremy Haynes (3-5) allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits, walked four and struck out three over six innings to take the loss.
Game two of this short series takes place on Sunday afternoon as the Kernels send RH Amalio Diaz to the mound. Gates open at 1 pm and the first 1,000 kids 12-under through the gates receive a free youth sized regulation baseball bat from McDonald's. It's also Mt.
