
Kernels earn series split with 6-2 win over Wisconsin

The Cedar Rapids Kernels earned a series split with the Wisconsin Timber Ratters by taking the final game of a four game series, 6-2, Friday night at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton.
Mark Trumbo was 3 for 4 with a triple and 2 RBI as the Kernels pounded out 12 hits. Wil Ortiz had a double and P.J. Phillips was 2 for 4 with a triple. Matt Sweeney, Brian Walker, Julio Perez and Anderson Rosario each added an RBI.
Kernels starter Sean O'Sullivan (5-5) allowed an unearned run on six hits and struck out seven to get the win. Warner Madrigal took over for Barret Browning in the bottom of the eighth and struck out four over 1.1 innings to earn his fourth save.
Wisconsin starter Kyle Parker (3-5) allowed two runs on six hits and struck out seven over seven innings to take the loss.
The Kernels improve to 9-7 and 47-38 overall as they head into a three game series with the Peoria Chiefs on Saturday. Wisconsin falls to 8-8 in the second half and 30-54 overall.
The Kernels return to Veterans Memorial Stadium for a brief three game series with the Peoria Chiefs and their hall of fame manager, Ryne Sandberg. Game times are 7 pm on Saturday, 2 pm on Sunday and noon on Monday.
