Frisco RoughRiders News Release

FRISCO, TEXAS (June 10, 2015) - Back-to-back eighth inning homers from Nomar Mazara and Trever Adams snapped a tie game and propelled the RoughRiders to a 5-3 win on Wednesday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Rangers pitcher Martin Perez made his first rehab start since undergoing Tommy John surgery and tossed 2.2 innings, giving up a run on five hits with four strikeouts.

It was 2-2 game heading to the bottom of the eighth when Brandon Alger (3-2) walked leadoff hitter Nick Williams. Mazara proceeded to punish a fastball over the centerfield wall to put the Riders on top 4-2. Adams then followed with his second homer of the season to give Frisco (24-34) a 5-2 lead.

The Riders' three-run eighth inning broke the tie and put the Missions in a dire situation, down three with three outs to play. San Antonio plated a run in the ninth, but David Martinez anchored down to retire Yeison Asencio with two men in scoring position to record his fifth save of the season.

Frisco got on the board in the first inning when Drew Robinson scored on a double-play ground out off the bat of Williams. The lead would not last long, as San Antonio (26-31) tied the game in the third on a double by Alberth Martinez off Perez, who was removed from the game after 45 pitches in his first start since last May.

With two outs in the bottom of the third, Robinson responded with a solo blast to deep center that put the Riders back in front 2-1.

After Josh McElwee tossed 1.1 perfect frames, Frank Lopez entered the game in the fifth. The Missions once again tied it in the sixth when Hunter Renfroe singled to left and Diego Goris hit a double down the left field line to score Renfroe. Lopez (2-0) pitched four innings in relief and gave up one run on five hits with four strikeouts.

The win snapped Frisco's three-game losing streak and ended a six-game win streak for the Missions.

LHP Andrew Faulkner (4-3) will face RHP Justin Hancock (5-1) for the third of a four game set on Thursday night. It's Thirsty Thursday at Dr Pepper Ballpark, where fans can get $1 domestic draft beers and $2 craft and imported beers from 6-8 p.m. Also all Dr Pepper products are only $1 all night long.
