Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - The New Orleans Baby Cakes (19-36) avoided a series sweep with a 7-1 win over the Round Rock Express (27-30) on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, Round Rock's nine-game winning streak at Dell Diamond fell by the wayside.
E-Train starter RHP Anthony Bass (1-1, 3.50) suffered his first loss of the season after allowing five runs, only four of which were earned, on five hits in just three innings of work. He struck out four and walked four on the afternoon. New Orleans reliever RHP Javy Guerra (2-0, 3.90) earned the win after 2.2 perfect innings out of the bullpen.
The visitors pounced for three-runs in the first inning. DH Steve Lombardozzi worked a one-out walk before 1B Tomas Telis followed up with a single. RF Moises Sierra then stepped to the plate and launched a three-run homer that crashed on to the roof of the batter's eye in center field.
Round Rock attempted to answer in the bottom of the frame. SS Jurickson Profar doubled and took third on a fielding error by Sierra. An ensuing Will Middlebrooks groundout scored his fellow infielder to put the Express on the board.
However, the Baby Cakes blew the game wide open with a four-run fourth inning. C Ramon Cabrera opened the frame with a single before a fielding error by E-Train 1B Ronald Guzman in the next plate appearance allowed SS Peter Mooney to take second while Cabrera moved to third. With RHP Brady Dragmire on to pitch, LF Chad Hinshaw and DH Destin Hood collected back-to-back walks to force in a run.
The inning continued as Telis grounded into a double play that scored Mooney from third. Sierra then followed up with an RBI single to increase his team's lead to 6-1. CF Brandon Barnes dealt the final blow, an RBI triple to center field that sent Sierra flying around the bases with New Orleans' seventh run of the day.
The Express now hit the road for an 11-game, 12-day trip. First up, Round Rock visits the Colorado Springs Sky Sox for the first time this season. E-Train RHP Clayton Blackburn (0-0, 0.00) is slated to start Monday night's opener against Sky Sox RHP Paolo Espino (4-1, 3.26). First pitch at Security Service Field is set for 7:40 p.m.
Single game tickets, season memberships, Flex Plans and Kids Club packages are on sale now. For more information on the Express, visit or call (512) 255-2255. Keep up with the Express on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter !
