Colorado Springs Sends Dodgers to 3-1 Loss in Finale

Oklahoma City - The Colorado Springs Sky Sox broke a scoreless tie in the seventh inning and went on to a 3-1 win against the Oklahoma City Dodgers Sunday afternoon at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

Both teams played through six scoreless innings in the series finale between the teams before Colorado Springs scored three runs over the seventh and eighth innings.

With the win, Colorado Springs took the four-game series between the teams, 3-1, in front of a crowd of 6,486.

Both teams had chances to break the scoreless tie early in the game.

The Dodgers put two runners on base in the bottom of the second inning, but Colorado Springs starting pitcher Josh Hader ended up striking out the side to keep the game scoreless. Colorado Springs hit back-to-back singles to open the fourth inning before Oklahoma City turned a double play and Tyler Heineman grounded out to end the inning.

In the top of the seventh inning, Colorado Springs broke through. Nate Orf was hit by a pitch, stole second base and advanced to third base on a sacrifice bunt by Yadiel Rivera. Heineman then hit a one-out double to bring home Orf for a 1-0 Colorado Springs lead. The double ended up as the lone extra-base hit of the game.

The Sky Sox (32-21) added to their lead in the eighth inning. Iván De Jesus was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and Kirk Nieuwenhuis drew a one-out walk. Later with two outs, Orf singled into right field to drive in two more Colorado Springs runs for a 3-0 lead.

The Dodgers (28-25) ended the shutout in the bottom of the eighth inning. Trayce Thompson reached base on an error and Max Muncy singled to put runners at first and third base for O'Koyea Dickson who grounded out and brought home Thompson to cut Colorado Springs' lead to 3-1.

Colorado Springs had the chance to add to their lead in the ninth. Dodgers pitcher Layne Somsen issued back-to-back walks to put two runners on base for Colorado Springs. Then with one out, Somsen intentionally walked Lewis Brinson to load the bases for Rene Garcia, who grounded out to end the inning.

In the bottom of the ninth, Oklahoma City's Drew Maggi led off with a single and pinch hitter Alex Verdugo hit a one-out single. Later with two outs and runners at first and third base, Willie Calhoun grounded out to end the game.

Colorado Springs pitcher Taylor Jungmann (1-0) was credited with the win, pitching four scoreless innings and holding the Dodgers to one hit and two walks, while recording eight strikeouts. Andrew Barbosa was credited with his first save of the season. Colorado Springs pitchers racked up 14 strikeouts in the game.

Justin Masterson (4-3) was charged with the loss, allowing one run and four hits over 6.1 innings with two walks and four strikeouts.

The Dodgers next travel to play a five-game road series against the Iowa Cubs, starting at 7:08 p.m. Monday at Principal Park.
