Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Mets slugged three home runs, including back-to-back shots by Wilmer Flores and Allan Dykstra, in an 8-5 win over the Trenton Thunder Friday night at NYSEG Stadium. The B-Mets energized 5,567 fans, their fourth-largest home crowd of the season, with an eleven-hit attack.

Dustin Martin led the charge with a three-hit night, finishing a double shy of the cycle. Flores capped his red-hot August with his fourth homer in the last nine games, ending a month in which he hit .377 over 28 games.

After being held to one run over thirteen innings in their two previous games against Trenton starter Brett Marshall, the B-Mets tagged the righty for three runs in the first. Wilfredo Tovar started the attack with a single and Martin quickly brought him home by launching a two-run homer to deep right field. Flores was hit by a pitch and scored later in the frame on Eric Campbell's sac fly.

The offensive onslaught continued in the second. The B-Mets added to their lead with back-to-back doubles by Pedro Zapata and Wilfredo Tovar. Flores and Dykstra trumped that feat with back-to-back homers later in the frame.

With Tovar on second, Flores sent a 2-1 pitch over the left field wall for his eighth home run of the season. Dykstra followed by blasting a solo shot to dead center, his seventh of the year. It was the first time the B-Mets have hit consecutive home runs this season.

Marshall plowed through three more innings before handing off to Ryan Flannery in the sixth. The righty allowed a run on two hits with Martin extending Binghamton's lead to eight with an RBI triple.

Peavey marched through six innings without getting harmed. The Washington native allowed four hits and walked three, but avoided harm thanks to four double plays. His luck changed in the seventh when the Thunder hung four runs on five hits on him, cutting the B-Mets lead to four.

Brad Holt took over in the eighth and surrendered a solo home run to Luke Murton, trimming Binghamton's advantage to three. Holt got the final two outs of the frame and passed the torch to Ryan Fraser in the ninth. The Tennessee native tossed a perfect ninth, capping his fourth save with a strikeout.

Peavey (8-8) went at least seven innings for the fourth straight start and collected his fourth win in August. Marshall (13-7) suffered his first loss to the B-Mets this season. Jon Meloan completed Trenton's pitching tab with a perfect eighth.

The B-Mets (67-72) continue their final series of the season against the Trenton Thunder Saturday night at 7:05 PM. LHP Mark Cohoon takes the mound against RHP Craig Heyer. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pre-game show begins at 6:50 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
