SeaWolves Drop Series Opener

The Erie SeaWolves began the final series of the season with a 4-3 loss to the Altoona Curve(69-70) at Jerry Uht Park on Friday night. The loss dropped the Howlers to 57-81.

Altoona threw the first punch in the opening inning when Adalberto Santos singled, advanced to second on a balk, reached third on Ramon Cabrera's base hit, and came into score courtesy of a fielder's choice. The run gave Altoona an early 1-0 lead.

The SeaWolves answered in the second inning with a double from Brandon Douglas, followed by a Corey Jones RBI single, tying the game 1-1. Altoona came right back in the third inning, as Santos tripled to lead off and scored on a Cabrera RBI triple. Cabrera then came into score on Andrew Lambo's groundout, putting the Curve back on top, 3-1.

The Howlers responded in the fourth inning when Daniel Fields laced an RBI double, after a leadoff double by Tony Plagman. After stealing third, Douglas would score Fields on a sacrifice fly to center field, notching the game at 3-3.

Altoona replied in the fifth inning as Lambo sent a solo homerun into right, giving the Curve the lead, 4-3. The solo blast was Lambo's fourth on the year. From there, the bullpen denied Erie any and all opportunity to come back.

Curve pitcher Jameson Taillon (3-0) picked up the win going, 6 innings, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits, 1 walk, and 5 strikeouts. Reliever Vic Black needed only 4 pitches in the ninth to get his 12th save of the season.

SeaWolves pitcher Ramon Garcia (9-10) got the loss, going 5 innings and giving up 4 runs on 10 hits, 1 walk, and 2 strikeouts.
