Taillon, Lambo Lead Curve Past 'Wolves, 4-3

August 31, 2012 - Eastern League (EL1)
Altoona Curve News Release

ERIE, Pa. - Jameson Taillon (3-0) turned in a quality start while Andrew Lambo's fifth-inning homer proved to be the difference-maker in a, 4-3, Curve win in the first of four versus Erie on Friday night at Jerry Uht Park. Taillon completed six innings and allowed three runs on six hits while striking out five in his final Double-A start of the season.

Taillon's scoreless streak to start his Double-A career was kept intact through the first but ended in the second when Corey Jones singled in Brandon Douglas with one out to tie up the game at one. All told, Taillon started his Double-A career with 12.1 innings of scoreless ball.

Altoona gave Taillon another lead to work with in the third when they scored a pair of runs off SeaWolves' starter Ramon Garcia (9-10) to go back up, 3-1. Adalberto Santos started the inning with a double and came home on a triple by Ramon Cabrera to once again put the Curve in front. It was an RBI groundout by Lambo that brought Cabrera in for the two-run lead.

That lead was erased in the fourth when Erie scored twice off Taillon with RBI from Daniel Fields and Douglas. The Curve once again answered immediately in the fifth when Lambo blasted his fourth home run of the season to put Altoona up, 4-3.

Taillon settled in and did not allow a run in the fifth or sixth before turning the ball over to Mike Colla. Colla was perfect through his two innings with six up, six down to go along with one strikeout. Vic Black pitched the ninth and earned his 12th save of the season and his second in as many nights. Black retired the side in order on four pitches to seal the victory.

With the victory on Friday, the Curve have now won 10 of their last 13 games including four straight on the road dating back to the sweep of Trenton. Cabrera, Santos and Jeremy Farrell each finished the day with a pair of hits in the Curve victory while Lambo led the team with a pair of RBI.

Altoona (69-70) and Erie (57-81) will meet in the second game of the four-game series at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday night from Jerry Uht Park in Erie. The Howlers are slated to send RHP Jared Gayhart (1-5, 4.55) to the hill for his ninth start of the season and 35th appearance overall. Altoona, however, has yet to announce a starter for Saturday night's contest.

Airtime on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
