Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

The Binghamton Mets committed three errors, leading to four unearned runs for the New Britain Rock Cats, who averted the sweep and beat the B-Mets 7-4 at NYSEG Stadium Thursday. The loss is just Binghamton's second in their last eight games as New Britain ends its eight-game losing streak.

New Britain (27-34) jumped out to a 6-0 lead against B-Mets starter Miguel Pinango. After back-to-back errors in the third allowing two to reach with no out, Denard Span drove in two with a single up the middle before Scott Whitrock brought Span home with a base hit to right for a 3-0 advantage. The Rock Cats added two more off Pinango (1-4) in the fourth on a Doug Deeds solo homer and J.R. Taylor's RBI double. Matt Moses homered in the fifth for New Britain's sixth tally.

The B-Mets (29-37) were stymied by New Britain starter Matt Garza, who tossed six shutout innings. Garza (4-1) gave way to Justin Olson in the seventh, who allowed a one-out single to Rashad Eldridge before walking Yunir Garcia with two out. Carlos Gomez followed with a two-run triple to center scoring Eldridge and Garcia, breaking up the shutout. Wilson Batista then singled home Gomez before Jorge Padilla walked, chasing Olson. Michel Abreu singled off Julio DePaula, scoring Batista and pulling Binghamton within 6-4.

New Britain closed out the scoring in the top of the ninth with another unearned run. After Alex Romero walked and stole second, Moses hit a grounder to third that was thrown away by Jay Caligiuri, scoring Romero.

The B-Mets were unable to get any closer against DePaula or Levale Speigner, who pitched a scoreless ninth for his fifth save. Friday, the B-Mets continue their six-game homestand, opening a three-game series with the Trenton Thunder. Miguel Perez (1-3, 5.25) gets the ball for Binghamton against Jeff Karstens (2-0, 3.20) of Trenton. Game time is 7:00 from NYSEG Stadium with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show kicking off the broadcast at 6:45 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
