Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

Torrential rains hammered NYSEG Stadium just two batters into the third inning. A half inning after Shawn Bowman gave the B-Mets a 1-0 lead with his eighth homer of the year, the contest was suspended with a runner at second and nobody out in the top of the third inning with Juan Portes at the plate. The game will be resumed as part of a doubleheader Wednesday at 6:05 at NYSEG Stadium. The suspended game will be a nine-inning contest, whereas the second tilt will be a seven-innings.

Jenrry Mejia had tossed two perfect innings before allowing a leadoff double to Whit Robbins to begin the third. Then, with a 1-0 count on Portes, nearby lightning strikes triggered home plate umpire Shaun Francis to clear the playing surface. Binghamton's grounds crew quickly applied the tarp and rain ensued not a minute later.

Tickets for Tuesday's rainout will be honored at tomorrow's game and at any other of the eight remaining B-Mets home games subject to availability.

The first pitch is slated for 6:05 and the radio broadcast on Newsradio 1290 WNBF begins at 5:50 with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show.
