Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
Third baseman Shawn Bowman knocked three hits including a home run and righty Jose Sanchez threw six strong innings giving up two runs, but the B-Mets fell 9-4 at Waterfront Park against the Trenton Thunder.
Down 1-0 through three innings, Bowman laced a Zach McAllister offering over the wall in left-center to tie the ball game at one. It was Bowman's team-leading fourth home run of the season.
Just as soon as Binghamton (13-14) had tied the score, the Thunder came back to take a lead. In the bottom of the fourth, they loaded the bases with no one out. After Kevin Smith hit into a fielder's choice to reach base, James Cooper dropped a one-out single in shallow center to put Trenton (13-13) in front 2-1.
The B-Mets would rally to tie in the sixth. Bowman reached with a one-out single off McAllister to start things. With a seven-game hitting streak on the line, D.J. Wabick stepped up and wacked a double to right-center field to get it tied up at two.
After Sanchez left the game, things went downhill for the B-Mets. Edgar Alfonzo allowed the first four he faced in the seventh to reach, including a three-run triple from Colin Curtis. He was removed in favor of Julio De La Cruz, who would allow three more to score and would finally get out of the inning after 11 men had come to the plate to propel the Thunder to an 8-2 lead.
In the ninth, the B-Mets scrapped back and put up two runs on five hits, including a Lucas Duda RBI single that gave him a team-high nine-game hitting streak. 9-4 was as close as Binghamton got as Trenton clinched the series win.
Binghamton will throw RHP Ryan Coultas (2-1, 2.60) tomorrow and Trenton will counter with LHP Wilkins Arias (0-1, 2.51). The game is slated for a 1:05 first pitch and the radio broadcast on Newsradio 1290 WNBF begins at 12:50 with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show.
