Connecticut Defenders News Release
MANCHESTER, NH- Coming into the afternoon's contest versus New Hampshire, Connecticut seeked revenge after yesterday's thumping and did just that with a 4-2 over the Fisher Cats to even the series at one game a piece.
The Defenders took the lead in the fourth inning on a 3B-Sharlon Scoop two RBI double into the right centerfield alley way and added one more with a 2B-Brock Bond RBI single to give Connecticut a 4-2 lead that they wouldn't relinquish.
The Fisher Cats left off where they finished last night, especially 2B-Brad Emaus as he delivered a solo homerun in his first at bat for the second consecutive game and New Hampshire had the lead at 1-0 at the end of the first inning.
New Hampshire added another run in the second inning with and RBI single by CF-Sean Shoffit to score RF-Adam Calderone who lead the inning off with a base hit and the Fisher Cats had a 2-0 lead.
Connecticut trimmed the lead in half in the top of third with a SS-Luis Sanchez fielding error off the bat of newly promoted SS-Brandon Crawford to plate DH-Andy D'Alessio who leadoff with a double, the Defenders trailed 2-1.
After the Defenders took the lead in the top of the fourth inning, they almost lost it. New Hampshire loaded the bases in the bottom half of the inning but Connecticut got some defensive help as C-Jackson Williams picked off DH-Brian Dopirak off of third base for the second out of the inning with a snap throw and Henry Sosa struck out 3B-Jonathan Diaz to get out of the jam after he convinced manager Steve Decker to leave him.
Defender's starter, RHP-Henry Sosa (2-0) picked up his second win of the year tossing five innings, allowing two earned runs off of seven hits, walked three and struck out three. Fisher Cat's starter, LHP- Marc Rzepczynski (5-2) suffered his second loss to Connecticut on the season turning in 5.1 innings of work, allowed four runs, two earned off of seven hits, walked one and struck out five.
Connecticut's closer, RHP-Dan Otero captured his seventh save in seven chances walking just one batter in the ninth inning.
Tomorrow's rubber match features the No. 4 rated prospect in the Giants organization (Baseball America), RHP Tim Alderson against New Hampshire's lefty, Nate Starner (0-0). Alderson will be making his double-A debut after his recent promotion from San Jose.
First pitch is slated for 1:05pm and fans can catch all the action starting with the Defenders Pre-game Show on the Defenders Flagship Station WICH 310AM or online at ctdefenders.com.
