
Austin Spurs Obtain Returning Rights to Josh Gray and Isaiah Canaan

AUSTIN, TX - The Austin Spurs, presented by SWBC, announced today the team has acquired the returning rights to Josh Gray and Isaiah Canaan from the Northern Arizona Suns in exchange for the returning rights of Hollis Thompson and Livio Jean-Charles.
Isaiah Canaan, 6-0/201, started this season with the Phoenix Suns, where he played 19 games and averaged 7.5 points, 3.3 assists and 2.6 rebounds in 26.5 minutes. Canaan also played in 19 games with Phoenix last season, averaging 9.1 points, 4.0 assists and 2.3 rebounds in 22.0 minutes.
Canaan has played a total of five years in the NBA, holding career averages of 8.4 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 20.9 minutes over 224 total games played. He was originally drafted by the Houston Rockets in the second round of the 2013 NBA Draft (34th overall) out of Murray State. After two seasons with Houston, he was dealt to the Philadelphia 76ers where he spent the 2015-16 season. He then signed with the Chicago Bulls, where he suited up for the 2016-17 campaign.
After splitting his collegiate career between Texas Tech, Odessa College and LSU, Josh Gray, 6-1/180, played with the Orlando Magic for the 2016 Summer League before being acquired by the Northern Arizona Suns. Over two seasons with Northern Arizona, the guard averaged 16.2 points, 5.4 assists and 4.2 rebounds in 29.3 minutes over 95 games. During the 2017-18 season, Gray signed two ten-day contracts with the Phoenix Suns, where he averaged 6.4 points, 2.4 assists and 2.0 rebounds in 17.2 minutes in five games played. Gray currently plays for the Changwon LG Sakers of the Korean Basketball League where he is averaging 18.1 points, 4.9 rebounds and 4.3 assists in 26.0 minutes over 23 games.
Jean-Charles was originally selected by the San Antonio Spurs with the 28th overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft. Since then he spent time during both the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons with the Austin Spurs, as well as five seasons with ASVEL Basket in France, where he is currently playing.
Thompson originally joined the San Antonio Spurs for the 2013 NBA Summer League before joining the Philadelphia 76ers for almost four seasons. Spending some of the 2016-17 campaign in Austin, he most recently played for the Greek club Olympiacos.
