
Mad Ants' Second Half Surge Lifts Fort Wayne against RGV

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Fort Wayne Mad Ants (8-7) defeated the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, 126-110, at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum on Monday night. Four Mad Ants players scored at least 20 points for Fort Wayne's final game before beginning the NBA G League Showcase in Las Vegas on Thursday.
Stephan Hicks led all scorers with 26 points on 11-of-16 shooting, to go along with four rebounds. Indiana Pacers assignee Alize Johnson recorded his eighth double-double of the season with Fort Wayne, finishing with 22 points and 14 rebounds.
Rob Gray led the bench in scoring for the seventh time this season, ending the night with 23 points on 7-of-16 shooting. Pacers two-way guard Davon Reed concluded his night with 21 points.
Rio Grande Valley (9-8) jumped out to a 9-0 run in the first 3:15 of the game and would never trail throughout the first 12 minutes. Fort Wayne would respond with a 42-point frame in the second quarter to take a one-point lead into the locker room. Brandon Sampson led all scorers with 17 of his 21 points in the first half for the Vipers.
A 14-0 run out of the locker room would propel the Mad Ants to a 15-point advantage, and would grow to as large as 16 in the third quarter.
The Vipers would never get closer than a 13-point deficit in the final quarter.
Bruno Caboclo, who played with the Mad Ants during the 2014-15 season, finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Gary Payton II, Chris Walker and Isaiah Hartenstein all ended the night in double figures as well.
Both teams will travel to Las Vegas to take on their next opponents at the G League Showcase. Rio Grande Valley will take on Long Island, while Fort Wayne will face Salt Lake City on Thursday.
