Austin FC News Release
Austin, TEXAS - Austin FC was today drawn against Haitian club Violette AC in the 2023 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League Round of 16. The Verde & Black will face Violette in a two-leg format featuring both a home match and an away match to be played in March 2023.
Violette AC will host the first leg between March 7-9, and the second leg will take place at Q2 Stadium in Austin between March 14-16. Exact dates and kickoff times for Concacaf Champions League matches are still to-be-confirmed.
The Concacaf Champions League is the premier professional soccer competition in the region, pitting the best teams from domestic leagues in Concacaf member nations against one another in a knockout tournament format. Each CCL matchup throughout all rounds of the tournament, including the final, will take place over two (2) legs - one home and one away - with the winner determined by aggregate score across the two (2) matches.
In the event the aggregate score is tied at the end of regulation in the second leg, away goals will be used as the primary tiebreaker. If the teams score the same number of away goals, the tie will be decided by extra time and a penalty kick shootout if necessary.
Austin FC had a historic 2022 season, finishing in second place in the MLS Western Conference and tying the league record for the largest points improvement by a second-year expansion team (+25). Austin also became only the third MLS team to advance through its first two rounds of postseason play in club history, defeating Real Salt Lake and FC Dallas to reach the Western Conference Final. The Club qualified for the 2023 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League by way of its fourth-place finish in the Supporters' Shield Standings.
