San Jose Earthquakes News Release


SAN JOSE, Calif. - Major League Soccer in currently in a two-day trade window that runs from today, November 7, through Wednesday, November 9 at 9 a.m. PT. The 2022 MLS Expansion Draft will then be held on Friday, November 11, with newcomers St. Louis CITY SC selecting five players.

Earthquakes homegrowns Cade Cowell (19) and Niko Tsakiris (17) recently participated in a United States U20 National Team camp at the Toyota Soccer Center in Frisco, Texas.

Earthquakes defender Miguel Trauco has been called to the Peru National Team for a training camp ahead of two international friendlies later this month. The final roster of players that will be competing in those matches will be announced later. Peru will host Paraguay on Wednesday, Nov. 16 (4:00 p.m. PT) at Estadio Monumental, before traveling to face Bolivia on Saturday, Nov. 19 (kickoff TBD) at Real Santa Cruz Stadium. Nov. 7, 2021 - Chris Wondolowski Announces Retirement

San Jose Earthquakes forward and captain Chris Wondolowski announced his retirement from professional soccer to fans following the Quakes' season finale vs. FC Dallas, in which he scored. Wondolowski finished his illustrious career with 171 regular season goals, 26 more than any other player in MLS history (Landon Donovan -145). He also holds the MLS records for combined regular season and playoff goals (173), goals for one club (167), game-winning goals (46), and goals in 1-0 victories (14), while ranking second in multi-goal games (25) and tied for second in hat-tricks (5).

Nov. 8, 2021 - Earthquakes Announce Chris Leitch as General Manager

Earthquakes announced on Nov. 8, 2022, the hiring of Chris Leitch as General Manager. Leitch has held a variety of roles with the Earthquakes over the past 13 years, including player (2009-11), technical director (2012-21), interim general manager (2016), and head coach (2017).

Nov. 11, 2019 - Earthquakes Sign Homegrown Goalkeeper Emi Ochoa

The San Jose Earthquakes signed goalkeeper Emi Ochoa to a Homegrown Player contract on Nov. 11, 2019. Ochoa, 17, made his first team debut on July 20, 2022, in an international friendly against Spanish side RC Celta de Vigo. He also made 15 appearances for Earthquakes II in MLS NEXT Pro and played for the Quakes Academy U17s at the 2022 Generation adidas Cup.

ACADEMY UPDATE

The Quakes Academy Boys' U13, U14, U15, and U17 squads played over the weekend.

The U13s and U14s both excelled, defeating Ballistic United on Saturday (U13s W 4-1; U14s W 14-0), and Albion SC Merced on Sunday (U13s W 3-0; U14s W 5-0). The U15s (L 2-1) and U17s (T 4-4) hosted Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday, with the U17s extending their undefeated streak (6-0-1) across all competitions.

All four Quakes Academy Boys' teams will now play on the road. The U13s and U14s will face Santa Cruz Breakers FC on Saturday, Nov. 12. The U15s and U17s will visit the Colorado Rapids on Saturday, Nov. 12, before facing Real Salt Lake on Sunday, Nov. 13.
