Austin FC News Release
Austin, TEXAS - Major League Soccer announced on Wednesday that Austin FC Academy defender Anthony Gonzalez was selected to compete in the 2022 MLS NEXT All-Star Game, taking place on Wednesday, August 10 in Blaine, Minn. Gonzalez will compete with the MLS NEXT Western Conference All-Stars against a team of MLS NEXT Eastern Conference All-Stars.
The selection adds to an impressive list of accomplishments for Gonzalez this month. On July 22, Gonzalez was called up to the U.S. U-19 Men's Youth National Team for the program's upcoming training camp. He also put in multiple impressive performances for the Austin FC U-17 team at the MLS NEXT Cup Playoffs, including a two-goal performance in the Round of 16 against New York City FC.
"It's an honor for Anthony to have been selected to compete in this event alongside some of the top young soccer players from all over the United States," said Austin FC Academy Director Tyson Wahl. "It's a testament to his outstanding efforts each day in training and games, and we look forward to watching him represent the Austin FC Academy in Minnesota."
Gonzalez and the 44 other players selected to play in the MLS NEXT All-Star Game were chosen by the MLS NEXT Player Selection Committee, which is made up of key MLS Player Development department personnel. The match will be streamed live and further tune-in details will be available at a later date.
