SAN JOSE, Calif. - Three members of the Quakes Academy were selected to the 2022 MLS NEXT All-Star Game presented by Allstate: defender Drew Murray, midfielder Cruz Medina, and goalkeeper Emi Ochoa. San Jose is one of only three MLS clubs to have three selections.
Two teams will compete in an East vs. West format at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minn. on the day of the MLS All-Star Game, Wednesday, Aug. 10. The match will be streamed live, and further details will be available at a later date. Admission to the MLS NEXT All-Star Game presented by Allstate at the National Sports Center is free of cost.
Medina, 15, and Ochoa, 17, are both on professional Homegrown Player contracts with the Earthquakes. The duo recently made their first team debuts in a friendly against Spain's Celta de Vigo on July 20. Murray, 17, was a standout defender for the Quakes Academy U17s this season and is committed to play at UCLA. All three players participated in the Generation adidas Cup in April.
The 45 players were selected by the MLS NEXT Player Selection Committee, which is made up of key MLS Player Development department personnel, following the conclusion of the MLS NEXT Cup Playoffs and Showcase. Players must have been U-18 (born in 2004 or earlier) and have competed in one of the MLS NEXT national showcase events this season, including MLS NEXT Fest, MLS NEXT Flex, Generation adidas Cup, and MLS NEXT Cup Playoffs and Showcase.
