CHARLESTON, SC - Josh Mazzola blasted a two-run home run to boost the Augusta GreenJackets past the Charleston RiverDogs, 5-4, in South Atlantic League action Thursday night in front of 5,334 fans at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

Mazzola's fourth home run of the season, a two-run blast, propelled the GreenJackets in the top of the seventh inning. The shot came on a 2-2 pitch from reliever Cory Arbiso (1-5) as the game-winner sailed over the left field wall.

The game was halted for 1:39 in the bottom of the fifth inning due to severe lightning, strong winds and steady rain with Charleston ahead, 4-3.

But when the game resumed, it was all Augusta.

Although falling, the RiverDogs remain 2.5 games in first place in the Southern Division and complete the six-game homestand with a 4-2 record. Charleston is now 35-25 on the season while the GreenJackets improve to 29-30.

Charleston took an early 1-0 lead in the first when Jose Pirela drew a leadoff walk and scampered around the bases when shortstop Vladimir Frias' throw sailed into right field on Melky Mesa's groundball for the game's first run.

The RiverDogs seized a 4-0 advantage in the second as the GreenJackets committed three errors in the inning. Pirela smacked an RBI triple down the right field line and Dan Brewer slugged a double off the wall in right-center as Charleston scored three times on two hits in the inning.

Augusta cut into Charleston's 4-2 lead in the third frame when Mike Loberg drew a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Following a walk to Mazzola, former Clemson standout Andy D'Alessio singled to load the bases. Juan Perez cracked a line drive RBI single up the middle to plate Loberg and Mazzola.

The GreenJackets added a run in the fourth inning when Frias slashed a single up the middle, stole second and scored on Ben Woodbury's single to left to make the score 4-3.

Casey Erickson earned a no-decision in his first start of the season for the RiverDogs as he lasted 2.1 innings and was charged for two earned runs on four hits and three walks with one strikeout.

Kyle Woodruff (1-0) won his first game of the season as he began the game after the rain delay and went three full stanzas, allowing three hits while striking out two. Closer Edwin Quirate picked up his second save of the campaign as he went the final two innings and surrendered one hit while walking one and striking out one.

Augusta starter Eric Surkamp also earned a no-decision after he allowed four runs - two earned - while surrendering five hits, one walk and seven strikeouts in four full innings of work.

Augusta collected 10 hits on the night, led by Mazzola and Matt Klimas, who each had a pair while Charleston recorded nine hits with Pirela, Brewer and Corban Joseph each notching two.

The RiverDogs embark on a six-day trek through Georgia as Charleston battles the Rome Braves, an affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, in a three-game set. Starting Game 1 Friday at 7:05 p.m., Charleston hands the ball to southpaw Manny Banuelos (4-2, 2.81 ERA) while the Braves oppose with right-hander Randall Delgado (1-6, 6.18 ERA).
