Hagerstown Suns News Release

LAKEWOOD, NJ - A heavy fog shortened the game between the Hagerstown Suns (26-28) and the Lakewood BlueClaws (34-24) at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood, NJ on Thursday. The Suns were trailing 3-1 in the middle of the sixth inning when the game was officially declared over, giving the BlueClaws the win.

Hagerstown led early, as Derek Norris hit his league-leading 13th home run in the top of the first with the bases empty. Norris also leads the South Atlantic League with 44 RBI.

Suns starter Paul Demny pitched well through the first four innings, allowing just one earned run, but got into trouble in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs, Demny allowed three run to score on a double, a walk and a two-RBI single to DH Jim Murphy.

After the Suns threatened to score but left the bases loaded in the top of the sixth inning, home plate umpire Shea Gipson called the players off the field due to the heavy fog.

After a 30-minute delay, the conditions were deemed unplayable, and the game was declared over.

With the abbreviated win, the BlueClaws currently lead the South Atlantic League Northern Divsion by 1.5 games over the Delmarva Shorebirds.

The Suns will now take on the Shorebirds in a three-day, four- game series at Municipal Stadium in Hagerstown starting on Friday, June 12th. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
