Augusta Builds Early Lead, Beats Legends 9-1

WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) A five-run third inning helped the Augusta GreenJackets defeat the Lexington Legends 9-1 Friday night in front of 6,401 fans at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. Augusta scored one run in the first inning. Bobby Haney doubled with one out and scored on Josh Mazzola's two-out double. Chris Lofton started Augusta's third-inning outburst with a triple, and came home on center fielder Bryce Lane's error.. One out later, Adam Duvall tripled and scored on a single by Mazzola. Ryan Lollis singled, moving Mazzola to second, and Devin Harris followed with a three-run homer, giving the GreenJackets a 6-0 lead. Lexington put its only run on the board in the third. With two out, Delino DeShields Jr. doubled, stole third, and scored when catcher Jeff Arnold's throw went into left field. The GreenJackets added two more runs in the fifth. With one out, Mazzola was hit by a pitch. He scored on Lollis' double. Harris grounded out, moving Lollis to third, from where he scored on Ryan Scoma's single, making the score 8-1. Augusta scored its final run in the ninth on a solo home run by Arnold, a former University of Louisville Cardinal. GreenJackets' starter Ryan Bradley (2-1) got the win after allowing one run in six innings of work. Lexington starter Ruben Alaniz (6-10) received the loss. The Legends' home stand will conclude Saturday evening against Augusta. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. .com
