FLORENCE FREEDOM (40-48) @ JOLIET SLAMMERS (34-55)

Thursday, August 28, 2014 - 8:05 p.m. ET

Silver Cross Field - Joliet, IL

Game #89 - Road Game #38 (40-48), (12-25)

LHP #41 Peter Gehle (5-5, 4.20 ERA) vs. LHP #26 Matt Crim (1-4, 6.90 ERA)

Last time out...

Florence won 9-7 on Wednesday. Sam Eberle plated Cole Miles with a RBI single in the third for the first run of the game. Florence scored five runs in the fourth inning. Buddy Sosnoskie and Gaby Juarbe singled to start the frame. Adam Taylor singled home Sosnoskie and Bryan Soloman drew a walk. Miles cleared the bases with a triple and the Freedom had a 5-0 lead. Miles would score on an error to make the score 6-0 in favor of the Freedom. Another run crossed the plate for the Freedom in the sixth as Adam Taylor tripled and Soloman singled him in for his first professional RBI. Soloman smacked his first professional home run in the eighth to make it 8-0 in favor of Florence. Casey Henn dominated for seven innings but Joliet rallied with seven runs in the eighth against three Freedom pitchers. A Rolando Gomez home run provided an insurance run in the ninth as Florence held on for the win.

For Starters...

Peter Gehle makes his 18th start of the year for the Freedom tonight. He has won two consecutive starts, most recently a 6-5 win over Southern Illinois on August 22 where Gehle went six innings, scattering five hits while allowing only three runs. Previously Gehle beat Joliet on August 16, going seven and a third innings, scattering seven hits, allowing two runs, walking two and striking out one. Gehle, 26, is a former 27th round draft pick of the Chicago White Sox in 2010 out of Azusa Pacific University. The Flagstaff, Arizona native spent two years in the White Sox organization before joining Sioux Falls of the American Association in 2012. He spent 2013 in the AA as well, this time with the Winnipeg Goldeyes.

Going for the sweep...

With a win today the Freedom would sweep their third series and their first road series of the season. Florence hasn't swept a three-game series since the season-opening series against Washington.

Thursdays...

Thursday is the only day of the week this season where the Freedom have a winning record. They are 7-6 on Thursdays.

Mr. Consistent...

Since joining the Freedom, INF Rolando Gomez has reached base in all 16 games he's played in. Gomez's four home runs for Florence this season matches his career high, despite only recently joining the team.

Five or more...

When the Freedom score five or more runs in a game, they are tough to beat. Last night's win moves Florence's record to 25-9 when scoring five or more runs.

Trying to finish .500...

The Freedom need to win all eight of their remaining games to finish with a .500 record in 2014.

Save me...

With former closer Jorge Marban moving into the rotation, RHP Ed Kohout has picked up seven saves in the month of August. The bullpen is 10 for 10 in save opportunities this month.

Excellent Eberle...

Sam Eberle leads the league in On-Base Percentage at .454 and has reached base safely in 30 consecutive games.

A Hot August...

This season the Freedom have already won more games in the month of August (14) than any other month this season. Their six road wins this month match their combined road wins over the first three months of the season.

Leading after six...

The Freedom have an impressive record of 31-5 when leading after six innings.
